Gessner Center Signage Proposal
Galveston Bay Foundation
Gessner Center Signage Proposal
1/2 Chosen for Final Production
This signage system was created for the Galveston Bay Foundation in collaboration with Kirksey for and their new Gessner Community Center, a building that is net positive, signifying a construction that gives back to the environment, rather than just being neutral to its surroundings.

This environmental system aims to ensure visitors and employees realize the positive impact the Gessner Center means for the Galveston Bay habitat. Via the Living Building Challenge, the building breathes with the bay, rather than being simply an insertion to its habitat.

2025
This environmental signage proposal narrates the Gessner Center’s promise to design with the Bay, not beside it. Through the Living Building Challenge, a framework organized into seven initiatives, each representing a core value of holistic sustainability, each decision honors the balance between endurance and ecology. Through our visual direction, we aimed to extend the shoreline’s story, how The Gessner Center is a living extension of Galveston Bay, being responsive, reflective, and rooted in place. Using durable materials, layered panels, and nature-inspired silhouettes, each design reveals how this environmental system belongs to the landscape, helping visitors understand how every function and process of this building gives back to Galveston Bay.
